The Arctic Comics Centre's exhibition presenting the world of Juba Tuomola's best-selling Viivi ja Wagner comic strips will open on April 7th in Kemi Art Museum. The exhibition is the single largest undertaking the Comics Centre has taken since its widely successful Mämmilä exhibition in 1995. Viivi ja Wagner exhibition's basic approach is to present the world of Tuomola's comics through interiors and articles such as furniture seen on the comics.

The exhibition will be entered through the apartment of Viivi and Wagner. Their kitchen, living room and bedroom will be furnished according to Viivi's taste. From the back of the apartment two streets called 'Elikkämäentie' and 'Sinä-passiivinkuja' - referring to Tuomola's wordplay in one of his strips - will lead the spectators past such places as Café Paakkelsi (Café Gateau) and Kuntosali Tuska (Agony Gym), as well as a section presenting several of Wagner's inventions (including a fully functioning Graduvex-machine which automatically produces Pro Gradu theses),a gallery of paintings, drawings and 3-D pictures (a tombstone Wagner designed for himself!) and all the way to the back part of the Art Museum to the throne of Sohvaperunoiden kuningas (King of the couch potatoes) and relevant paraphernalia. In the sky, touching the ceiling will be the hot-air balloon with Wagner's features that was seen ensuring Wagner's triumphant victory in his electoral campaign.

Instead of using Tuomola's originals, a decision was made that the exhibition will be composed of a set of 150 framed copies of Viivi ja Wagner comic strips and twenty-odd audiovisual 'audio strips'.

Team of journalist Ville Hänninen, editor-in-chief of Sarjainfo magazine Vesa Kataisto, and festival director Heikki Porkola masterminded the guidelines for the exhibition which were then further developed and turned into reality by Marja Huhta and Risto Koskinen. Other members of the exhibition's building team are Anja Holpainen, Kemi Art Museum's exhibition amanuensis, Ilpo Koskela, comics artist and the Chairman of the Arctic Comics Centre, and Heikki Porkola. The audiostrips are produced by Jussi Korhonen.
Viivi ja Wagner albums and other merchandise such as textiles, ceramics, toys etc. will be available in the commercial area of the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open for public until August 20th; in Kemi Art Museum from April 7th until the end of this year's Arctic Comics Festival on May 15th and after that in Tullimakasiini (Kauppakatu 29, near Kemi Gemstone Gallery).
